Join with Just Peace Advocates to present Suha Jarrar, researcher at Al Haq discussing "justice and adaptation" in relation to the politics of climate change in Palestine.
Suha will be speaking about Environmental Injustice in the Occupied Palestinian Territory--the problems and the prospects, and discussion is sure to consider how settler-colonization from Turtle Island to Palestine are impacted by environmental injustice.
Suha will also be sharing information on the Gaza 20/20: Perceptions and Reality campaign that will focus on holding the Canadian government to account under international and domestic law. The UN has stated that Gaza will be unlivable in 2020. For the nearly 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, Israel’s persecution and collective punishment has already made life there unbearable. This is very much tied to environmental injustice as well. What is Canadians called to do in this regard? The call is for Canadians to hold our own government accountable under its own domestic law as well as international law. This includes a call for military embargo and economic sanctions until the blockade on Gaza is lifted.
Suha Jarrar is a Palestinian human rights researcher and advocate, and currently the Environmental and Gender Policy Researcher at Al-Haq human rights organization in Ramallah, Palestine. Suha obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental and gender studies from Trent University in Canada, and her Master of Science in Climate Change Science and Policy from the University of Sussex. Suha’s M.Sc. research focused on climate change adaptation in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) of the West Bank/East Jerusalem and Gaza.
