As if the protest restrictions already in place at municipal and federal levels of government weren’t bad enough, the Government of Ontario is currently seeking feedback on a proposal to introduce:
‣ New prohibitions for obstruction of a roadway, including overpasses/bridges
‣ New arrest powers for police where there is a failure to comply with the duty to identify
‣ New police authorities to direct individuals to cease intimidating or obstructing access to community/cultural infrastructure
‣ A new provincial offence for individuals that do not comply with this direction
‣ A new requirement for individuals to provide identifying information for the purposes of issuing a provincial offence notice in relation to the new offence
‣ New arrest powers for police where there is a failure to comply with the duty to identify

Consultation on this proposal closes THIS SATURDAY (October 31, 2026).
