| Denounce Mark Carney’s support for Donald Trump’s aggression against Iran. Please take a minute to write to the Prime Minister to condemn US war crimes that could plunge the region and world into ever greater violence. After nine days of Israeli attacks that have killed nearly 500 Iranians, US forces dropped 14 massive bunker buster bombs and launched over two dozen Tomahawks missiles against Iranian nuclear facilities. Saturday night’s attacks were an illegal act of aggression that also violate international law regarding targeting nuclear facilities. Nonetheless, you posted in support of US war crimes, echoing the claim that US-Israeli aggression is about nuclear arms. You posted, “Iran’s nuclear programme is a grave threat to international security, and Canada has been consistently clear that Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. While U.S. military action taken last night was designed to alleviate that threat, the situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile.” The idea that this aggression is about an Iranian nuclear arms program is illogical. For many decades Israeli officials have claimed Iran is on the cusp of acquiring nuclear weapons and in recent months both US intelligence and the International Atomic Energy Agency have said there’s no evidence of this. Additionally, it’s Donald Trump that ripped up the successful Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Iran nuclear agreement in 2018. The two countries that have attacked Iran are nuclear armed states that have sought to block any effort to develop a Middle East Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone, which most countries in the region have supported. Canada has said it supports a nuclear weapons free Middle East yet has opposed organizing a regional conference on the establishment of such a zone. Canada also opposes the Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and voted against a resolution calling on Israel to sign the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) backed by 153 countries.
