Matthew Green sponsors Parliamentary Petition to Investigate Illegal Israeli Military Recruiting

Take a minute citizens or residents of Canada to sign a petition to call upon the Minister of Justice to undertake a thorough investigation of those who have recruited or facilitated recruiting for the Israel Defense Forces, and, if warranted, lay charges against those involved in recruiting and encouraging recruiting for the IDF.

Petition to the Minister of Justice

Whereas:

• The Foreign Enlistment Act states: “Any person who, within Canada, recruits or otherwise induces any person or body of persons to enlist or to accept any commission or engagement in the armed forces of any foreign state or other armed forces operating in that state is guilty of an offence.”;
• The Israeli consulate in Toronto has advertised on several occasions an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) representative available for personal appointments for those wishing to join the IDF, not just those who are required to do mandatory service;
• The IDF has shot and injured at least two Canadian citizens since 2015;
• The IDF has repeatedly contravened the Fourth Geneva Convention, and illegally attacked Syria and Lebanon by missile or by drone;
• Israel is a nuclear power
• The Ambassador of Canada conducted an event on January 16, 2020 honouring Canadians serving in the IDF; and
• A formal complaint has been filed regarding recruiting taking place within Canada to enlist persons into the IDF.

We, the undersigned, citizens or residents of Canada, call upon the Minister of Justice to undertake a thorough investigation of those who have recruited or facilitated recruiting for the Israel Defense Forces, and, if warranted, lay charges against those involved in recruiting and encouraging recruiting for the IDF.

Attendu que :

• La Loi sur l’enrôlement à l’étranger stipule ceci : « Quiconque, dans les limites du Canada, recrute ou incite autrement une personne ou un groupe de personnes à s’enrôler ou à accepter un brevet ou engagement dans les forces armées d’un État étranger, ou dans d’autres forces armées qui opèrent dans cet État, est coupable d’une infraction. »;
• Le consulat d’Israël à Toronto a annoncé à plusieurs reprises qu’un représentant des Forces de défense israéliennes (IDF) offrait des rendez-vous personnels à quiconque souhaitait rejoindre les IDF plutôt qu’exclusivement à ceux pour qui le service militaire est obligatoire;
• Les IDF ont ouvert le feu et blessé au moins deux citoyens canadiens depuis 2015;
• Les IDF ont contrevenu à répétition à la Convention de Genève (Convention IV) et attaqué illégalement la Syrie et le Liban en utilisant des missiles ou des drones;
• Israël est une puissance nucléaire
• L’ambassadeur du Canada a dirigé un événement le 16 janvier 2020 afin de rendre hommage aux Canadiens servant dans les IDF;
• Une plainte officielle a été déposée sur les activités menées au Canada pour inciter les gens à s’enrôler dans les IDF.

Nous, soussignés, citoyens ou résidents du Canada, prions le ministre de la Justice de mener une enquête approfondie sur les personnes ayant recruté ou facilité le recrutement au sein des Forces de défense israéliennes et, s’il y a lieu, de déposer des accusations contre les responsables.
