The RCMP has reportedly opened an investigation into those who’ve participated in Israel’s genocide. This is a positive, but insufficient, step. Take a minute to email RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme to demand they apply the law, irrespective of political pressure, by investigating Israel related violations of Canada’s War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Act.

On Tuesday the Toronto Star reported the RCMP opened an investigation into those who’ve participated in Israel’s genocide under its Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Program. This is a positive, but insufficient, step. As the Star noted, when the RCMP instigated an investigation into Canadian ties to war crimes in Ukraine you announced it publicly and sought out individuals with evidence. The Star reported, “the lack of announcement stands in stark contrast to the agency’s probe into alleged war crimes in Ukraine, which has involved a hotline and dedicated webpage, media interviews, online advertising, signs erected at airports and questionnaires distributed in an attempt to collect witness testimony from fleeing Ukrainians.”
Why isn’t the RCMP doing the same with Israel’s genocide in Gaza?
Israel has killed far more civilians. There are also many more Canadians fighting in the Israeli military and, unlike Russia, Israeli soldiers regularly come to Canada to speak at events.
Unfortunately, the RCMP has a poor track record of applying Canadian law concerning Israel. In 2020 you failed to properly investigate a formal legal complaint concerning individuals violating the Foreign Enlistment Act by inducing Canadians to join the Israeli military.
The RCMP must apply the law irrespective of political pressure. Investigate Israeli related violations of Canada’s War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Act.
