On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Israel killed at least 500 at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza. Some among the one million Palestinians displaced in Gaza had sought refuge there.
Hours before this assault, Israel bombed a UN school killing six. A few hours later Israel blew up the biggest bakery in Gaza. As part of their total siege of an area the size of Montreal, Israel has cut off water, food, medicine supplies, fuel and electricity to the coastal strip.
To be clear: bombing schools and hospitals is a war crime.
Over the past ten days Israeli rockets have killed 3,200 Palestinians. This includes by conservative estimates according to Defense for Children International Palestine that 1200 children have died with several hundred missing under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog explicitly rejected the idea that there are civilians in Gaza while defence minister Yoav Gallant declared, “Gaza won’t return to what it was before. We will eliminate everything.”
Just prior to Israel’s massacre at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital NDP leader Jagmeet Singh hinted at what’s happening in Gaza, labelling it the “seeds of genocide”. In fact, professor genocide studies at Stockton University Raz Segal says what’s happening in Gaza is “A Textbook Case of Genocide”.
So far Prime Minister Trudeau has enabled Israel’s genocidal policies through his comments, actions and attendance at pro-Israel rallies
It’s time to condemn Israel’s genocidal siege and violence in Gaza.
Yesterday, October 17, 2023, multiple thousands took to the streets in emergency protests in Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary and Toronto against Israel killing 500+ at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza.
Protests are scheduled across the country this week and over the weekend.
In the meantime, tell Justin Trudeau to stop enabling genocide in Gaza.
