After 4 Years, We Are Launching an Updated Legal + Tactical Guide

Green background with the title "Palestinian Human Rights Issues in Canada: A Legal & Tactical Guide" in black, bold font. Across the bottom are people protesting and holding signs, with their backs to the camera. In the top leftcorner is the JPA logo and in the top right corner is a megaphone, olive branch, and a person with their back towards us, wearing a kuffiyeh on their head.

In 2020, we released the first version of Palestinian Human Rights Issues in Canada: A Legal & Tactical Guide. We made additional updates in 2021, and now, we are grateful to be releasing a third version.

Over the last year and a half, since Israel escalated its “chronic, insidious genocide” in October 2023, Palestine advocacy has exponentially grown nationally and globally. This updated guide reflects recent events as well as new legal precedent. As activism for Palestinian human rights has increased, so have attempts at suppression, violence, targeting of pro-Palestinian activists. Our hope is that this guide will continue to be a resource for those who join the fight for a Free Palestine.

What’s included in the guide?

The guide includes information about:

  • Free speech rights
  • Protest rights
  • Criminal issues you may face
  • Campus specific issues
  • Boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) actions
  • Other lawsuits to know about like defamation, assault and battery, and national and international legal advocacy
  • Resources such as legal and other organizations to connect with, legal aid websites, and Freedom of Information request information
  • Case law appendix with some key cases

The guide is available as PDF on our website to review or download by selecting “Legal and Tactical Guide” below. We also have a text only version available for accessibility.
