Since our previous action, evidence shows that Carney and the Canadian government are creating a path to participation in the “Golden Dome”. Below is an update shared by World Beyond War on Instagram:
URGENT ACTION ALERT: Carney is taking steps towards signing Canada up for Trump’s outrageous, aggressive, and wildly expensive “Golden Dome.”
The “Golden Dome” is a dangerous delusion that aims to put missiles in space for the first time ever – a clear path to accelerate a global arms race, militarize space, launch dystopian warfare, and enrich weapons manufacturers and tech oligarchs like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.
Just as building pipelines entrenches a future of oil extraction and climate crisis, the decision to ramp up Canada’s military budget and fund Trump’s space missiles entrenches a commitment to wage war for decades to come.
If ever there were a time to reassess the genuine threats to the security of people across Canada and separate them from the self-interested goals of Donald Trump or the American weapons industry, this is it.
“At what point do we stop cringing before the abusive, racist bullying of Donald Trump? When do we stop pretending it’s all part of some clever negotiating strategy that justifies bootlicking in hopes of tariff concessions?” — Lloyd Axworthy, former Liberal Foreign Affairs Minister
The only way Carney can spend billions on the “Golden Dome” is if he enacts a devastating agenda of austerity.
Carney is committing to robbing the country of the resources needed to address the actual security threats facing people across Canada – climate change and ecological collapse, public health emergencies and poverty, coupled with the ballooning costs of housing and food.
Canadians are overwhelmingly opposed to paying for Trump’s Golden Dome. 63% say Canada “should not be part of the American Golden Dome,” while just 17 per cent support paying the costs to join, which President Trump has set at $71 billion USD. Most analysts agree the program will cost many times more.
Tell Canada to reject Trump’s “Golden Dome”
Instead of a foreign policy based on ever-increasing militarization and warmongering in lockstep with the US, we must develop one that seeks peace through diplomacy and demilitarization.
