Our Concerns with Ben Mulroney
Conflicting Roles: The Ben Mulroney Show and The West Block on Global News
Ben Mulroney hosts two shows:
- The Ben Mulroney Show: An opinion-based talk show which is not subject to the basic journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, and bias.
- The West Block: A flagship political affairs program on Global News, which is expected to follow a rigorous set of ethics and standards.
Holding these two roles simultaneously is incompatible with the standards to prevent perceptions of bias set out by Global News and the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council.
Compromised Journalistic Independence
Ben Mulroney serves as an “Ambassador” for B’nai Brith Canada—a registered lobby group that advances pro-Israel policy positions and has lobbied Canada to “unconditionally support Israel” and its genocide in Gaza.
Mulroney currently works for Aurora Strategy Global, a Bay St. PR firm that employs registered lobbyists.
He has made personal donations to the Conservative Party, hosted partisan campaign events, and attended exclusive fundraisers for Pierre Poilievre.
An analysis of Mulroney’s work by Press Progress raised concerns about potential conflicts between his jobs at Aurora and Global.
These overlapping roles create insurmountable conflicts of interest.
The Appearance of Bias
During a January 2026 episode of The West Block, Ben Mulroney interviewed John Bolton, the former Ambassador to the United Nations and National Security Advisor for the United States. During the interview, Bolton made confusing comments about Hamas and Trump’s so-called Board of Peace—like his claim that Hamas “roams around the world”—which merited clarification. However, Mulroney overlooked the comments and moved on, failing to provide balance and ensure accuracy. Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) submitted a complaint, but has yet to hear back.
The undersigned insist that Ben Mulroney is unable to fulfil the role of host of a political affairs show—particularly on issues related to Palestine and Israel—due to his well-documented and numerous conflicts of interest.
Israeli War Crimes Denial
In February 2026, after posting an erroneous claim on X about the Liberal Party, Ben Mulroney faced public backlash for suggesting a post by former Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly was problematic. Following news of the bombing of Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, on October 17, 2023, Joly wrote: “Bombing a hospital is an unthinkable act, and there is no doubt that doing so is absolutely illegal.”
While Israel has denied responsibility for the attack, the exact cause of the explosion at Al-Ahli is still disputed. The findings of Forensic Architecture (FA) were “inconclusive” following extensive research. FA noted that “the Israeli military launched an aggressive disinformation campaign…. [and] Israel has yet to provide any conclusive visual evidence to support the claim.” FA also found that “Israeli intimidation and attacks on medical infrastructure, including hospitals, has been systematic and unrelenting” since October 7.
Additionally, according to the World Health Organization, Israel launched 735 attacks on health care facilities in Gaza between October 7, 2023 and June 11, 2025.
Despite the above, Mulroney later claimed on his talk show that Melanie Joly was spreading a blood libel and was responsible for stoking antisemitism.
Genocide Denial
Global’s Journalistic Principles and Practices state that its journalists must be “accurate, fair, and balanced,” committed to “objective reporting,” and “focused on facts.” Yet Mulroney compared the well-founded claim of genocide in Gaza to flat earth theory during an episode of The Ben Mulroney Show, a radio talk show. After public challenge, he doubled down, despite the fact that the United Nations completed an independent investigation on September 16, 2025, concluding that Israel is committing genocide, along with numerous other reputable international human rights organizations, the International Court of Justice, and UN Special Rapporteurs. This constitutes denial of an ongoing genocide documented by the world’s leading human rights bodies and directly violates Global’s own standards requiring fact-based, objective reporting.
Foreign Government Propaganda Missions
Mulroney was recently in Israel on a “government relations mission” with the President of Aurora Strategy, along with other public figures and so-called journalists—accepting what amounts to a propaganda trip from a government committing genocide. Some politicians on the trip confirmed that the Israeli government paid for it. Global News has failed to respond to CJPME’s inquiries regarding whether Mulroney accepted any gifts or payments for the trip. No journalist maintaining all-expenses-paid relationships with foreign governments can credibly claim independence when covering those governments’ actions.
Islamophobic Misinformation
On September 23, 2025, Mulroney amplified a racist conspiracy theory claiming Canada recognized Palestine because Muslim voters increased to 2 million and are “rising daily.” He called this demonstrably false tweet “insightful.” The tweet originated from an account that had previously stated: “Islam is not a religion but a manifesto of rape, domination, conquest, forced conversions, slavery, sex with 9 years olds [sic] and murder of one’s enemies.” By endorsing this content, Mulroney promoted Islamophobic fears that Muslim influence dictates Canadian foreign policy.
Our Action
As of the date of this statement, the undersigned organizations commit to:
- Cease all viewership of The West Block or any other programming featuring Ben Mulroney.
- Instruct our members, supporters, and community networks to do the same.
- Refuse all interview requests and participation in these programs.
- Publicly document ongoing instances of bias, racism, and ethical violations.
- Reserve the right to escalate this boycott to include all Global News programming if Ben Mulroney is not removed from his hosting position on The West Block.
Why Take This Action
Canadian media has systematically failed to hold Israel accountable for genocide while simultaneously platforming racism against Muslims and Palestinians. When journalists accept foreign government propaganda trips, deny ongoing genocides, amplify Islamophobic conspiracy theories, and maintain multiple conflicts of interest, they forfeit any claim to journalistic credibility.
The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council requires broadcasters to ensure programming is accurate, fair, and unbiased. The Radio Television Digital News Association’s Code of Journalistic Ethics mandates that journalists “avoid conflict of interest, real or perceived.” Ben Mulroney has repeatedly violated these standards.
We have sent emails and made phone calls about this for years. We have filed formal complaints. We have appealed to his employer and editorial oversight. Nothing has changed.
It is time for public accountability. We will no longer provide audiences, legitimacy, or participation to programming that platforms racism and genocide denial.
