Charles McVety is infamous for being labelled the most “vocally homophobic man in Ontario” by former Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne. McVety is the President of Canada Christian College (CCC), a registered charity and graduate school that prepares students for Christian Ministry.

In 2022, CCC hosted an event, along with the Israel Allies Foundation, honouring former Prime Minsiter Stephen Harper.

“[We] had the privilege of hosting the Gala Awards Dinner to honour the Right Honourable Stephen J. Harper who received the prestigious Israel Allies Award for his principled and unwavering support for the Jewish people and the State of Israel.”

In a critique of Doug Ford’s close relationship with McVety, writer Michael Coren wrote:

Charles McVety is no ordinary or mainstream Christian. He has been at the centre of, and often led, many of the most unpleasant campaigns in Canada against LGBTQ equality and modern sex education, and is considered on the right-wing fringe, even within the evangelical church. He also disputes evolution, is fiercely opposed to campaigns against climate change, and wrote in 2009, “I believe this taxing and trading of air will fund the one world government of the Anti-Christ.” He also has radical opinions about other faiths…”

Those radical opinions? Unsurprisingly, radical anti-Muslim hate and Islamophobia.

Under the umbrella of CCC, McVety runs Christians United for Israel – Canada (CUFI-Canada). CUFI-Canada is “a non-denominational coalition of individual Christians and Christian organizations from across Canada dedicated to actively supporting the Nation of Israel and its People.” It is affiliated with CUFI “largest pro-Israel organization in the United States with over one million members.” CUFI was founded and is run by John Hagee, a Texas mega-church pastor. In addition to powerful lobbying for conservative Evangelicalism, “Hagee has wielded his beliefs to rally against gay marriage and adoption, women, and even Jewish people.” By operating under CCC, CUFI-Canada is able to provide tax-receipts for donations.

McVety and Hagee are also directors of the charity “Global Evangelism Television Canada Inc.” It is unclear how this organization operates in Canada, it appears to funnel most of its revenue to two recipients in the US: John Hagee Ministries and NFL Media Group. While the first organization is more obvious, the second, NFL Media Group, appears to be a “an international media and direct response marketing company.” This business supports “both faith -based and non-faith based direct response clients.”
