Exposing Christian Zionism this Advent: The Messianic Christianity Edition

Many Canadian registered charities consider themselves supporters of Israel. Within this group, is a subgroup of Christian Zionist charities that view Israel (the place and people) as a crucial part of the Christian faith. As one organization explains:

“We believe that Israel is God’s chosen national people (Gen. 28:13). In God’s sovereign will, Israel serves as a channel of His blessing to the entire world (Gen. 12:3) for His glory (Isa. 43:7), and His witness to the nations (Isa. 43:10). God’s election of Israel for this unique relationship is irrevocable (Ro. 11:28-29). We believe Israel is distinct from the church and central to God’s plan, past, present, and future. The unfulfilled prophecies given to Israel in the Old Testament will find their literal fulfillment in Israel at a future time.”

In other words, as Jonathan Kuttab explains:

“In the evangelical Christian worldview, the 1948 creation of Israel was a fulfilment of Biblical prophecy and the Palestinians are either ‘non-existent’ or ‘the enemies of God, because they are the enemies of the State of Israel’, explains Palestinian human rights defender Jonathan Kuttab.”

Kuttab tells host Steve Clemons that believers of this interpretation of holy scripture do not care about international law or catastrophic war in the region.

“They say, ‘Bring it on. That’s the End Times. That’s the Second Coming. That’s wonderful.’”

Rabbi David Mivasair says:

Christians err in supporting the state of Israel. The modern state of Israel is not the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. Israel violates the most fundamental Biblical commandments of ‘you shall not kill’, ‘you shall not steal’, ‘you shall not covet your neighbour’s house’ and so many more of God’s basic demands. The Israel of today as it is enabled by Christians’ support is not an ideal — it’s an idol. Christian support for the state of Israel doesn’t help the Jewish people; it harms us by sanctifying a perversion of our true religion.

Today, we’re exploring 11 of these organizations, and analysing how they materially support Israel with tax-subsidized funds.

Jews for Jesus

The homepage of Jews for Jesus Canada says, “You can be Jewish and be for Jesus.” In other words, they want to see Jewish people convert to Christianity. They say, “You are chosen to know the King of the Universe and to be a light that leads others to find Him. That is the calling that God gave to all of Abraham’s descendants. Shouldn’t we follow wherever He leads us?” They go so far as to state that all Jewish people with convert: “God’s plan will result in the salvation of Jewish people.”

Jews for Jesus is connected with the Israeli military — regularly showing off former Israel military personnel who converted to Christianity. Jews for Jesus appointed a new CEO in 2024, with the Jerusalem Post specifically noting his Israeli military service. Jews for Jesus in Israel hosts weekly meetings for Israeli soldiers. Additionally, since October 2023, Jews for Jesus has been providing care packages to soldiers.

First Century Foundations

First Century Foundations offers tours to Israel to “to connect [participants] to the Land of Israel and to the people and the ministries in Israel,” with the goal of connecting people to Jesus and ‘”interced[ing] for Israel.” Their main Israeli recipient is “King of Kings Community” which is a “compelling, Messiah-centered, Spirit-empowered, disciple-making community revealing the true face of Yeshua (Jesus) to Israel and the nations.” King of Kings hosts an “Israel War Relief Fund” to support those “impacted by the war.”

Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry – Canada (FOI Canada)

FOI Canada is a worldwide evangelical ministry proclaiming biblical truth about Israel and the Messiah, while bringing physical and spiritual comfort to the Jewish people. FOI was founded in 1938 “as a compassionate effort to meet the spiritual and physical needs of Jewish people whose lives were displaced and tragically affected by the Holocaust.” They explicitly want to convert everyone, based on their vision which is to “see everyone believe in God’s son.”

In their 2024 report, they outlined how “the war has positively affected the unity of the body of Christ…The grave situation causes many to seek God, opening many opportunities to share the gospel. As many lost their lives, many more, God willing, will find eternal life due to this war.” It appears FOI Canada is giving funds directly to the Israeli military. They state they are “provid[ing] emergency medical equipment to first responders and frontline medics.” They go on to say they have provided over 200 army medics with medical equipment. They also provided 7 Magen David Adom first-response vehicles; Magen David Adom provides medical support to the Israeli military. FOI Canada also supports Aliyah (immigration to Israel), though it is not clear whether they facilitate immigration to illegal settlements.

FOI Canada also appears to act as a travel company, taking people to Israel as part of their “Up to Jerusalem” tours. Despite the itinerary listing stops in the occupied West Bank, FOI Canada advertises this as a trip to Israel.

We previously asked the CRA to investigate FOI Canada, both in relation to its acting as a travel agency, as well as investigation into any charities that proclaim any specific religion, race, or ethnicity is a “chosen” people.

Chosen People Ministries (Canada)

Chosen People Ministries “exists to pray for, evangelize, disciple, and serve Jewish people everywhere.” They support Israel and the Israeli military specifically. In their May/June 2025 newsletter, Chosen People Ministries wrote “We invite you join us in prayer for God’s protection over Israel, its civilians, and IDF soldiers…[and] Salvation of all Israel through faith in Yeshua.” They also reposted an article titled: “Israel Is Not Committing Genocide in Gaza.” Like other organizations, Chosen People Ministries leads tours to ‘Israel’, which include stops in the occupied West Bank. Chosen People Ministries in Israel provided “more than 1,000 soldiers with hygiene products, thermal underwear, flashlights, chargers, and other necessities.” They also “organized barbecues and concerts on military bases, with 200–300 soldiers attending each event, providing opportunities to present testimonies and demonstrate [their] faith.”

Faith Temple

Faith Temple is a bit different from other organizations on this list. Unlike those that are focused on conversion, the Pastor of Faith Temple believes “it’s wrong to try to convert Jews to Christianity.” But it’s not that simple, he goes on to say: “One of the greatest joys that I’ve had in my ministry as a pastor is motivating Christians to become Christian Zionists. In the past fourteen years we have steered Christian Philanthropy to support JNF, Magen David Adam, Chabad, B’nai Brith and Emunah. One Christian couple has purchased four emergency vehicles for Israel and planted a forest through JNF.”

While unsupportive of conversion attempts, Faith Temple materially supports Christian Zionism. In addition to supporting organizations upholding Israel’s military and illegal settlements, Faith Temple also sends funds to Christian Friends of Israeli Communities (CFOIC), an Israeli organization that operates in the occupied West Bank. However, CFIOC refuses to identify this land as occupied Palestine, instead referring to it as “Judea and Samaria” and “the Biblical Heartland of Israel.”

Part of their work is supporting the Israeli military regarding ‘security’ in the occupied West Bank. “The IDF is fully responsible for the security of Judea and Samaria, but there is often a shortage of resources to ensure each community is fully protected. Surveillance cameras have long been vital to a community’s security, but so are communications devices, protective gear, and binoculars. Given timely warning, the community’s civilian security staff c an notify the military immediately, and an attack can be prevented.”

Another part of their work is fueling the maintenance and expansion of settlements under the guise of community development and support for children and youth. For instance, CFOIC is fundraising to build a playground in the illegal settlement of Avigayil. They’re also fundraising to expand a community centre in the illegal settlement of Migdalim. These are just a couple examples of many.

Empower Ministries

Empower Ministries is a church planting organizations that operates in more than 50 countries around the world. While claiming to be concerned with antisemitism, Empower Ministries says this about its work in Israel: “Violent acts, often carried out in the name of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus’ Hebrew name), have resulted in many Jewish people finding it difficult to put their trust in the Lord Yeshua. They have a ’spiritual veil’ on their minds, which prevents their full understanding of salvation through Yeshua (2 Corinthians 3:14). Therefore, it is no wonder that many Israelis find it difficult to put their full trust in Messiah Yeshua, and thus, this has made it extremely challenging to build messianic congregations, but all of this has changed over the past 15 years.” While they state they support Arabic-speaking churches, they never once refer to Palestine or Palestinians.

Zion Messianic Fellowship

Zion Messianic Fellowship is a religious community “for the distinct and specific calling to be a light for Yeshua within our Jewish cultural and social world.” The majority of funds Zion Messianic Fellwoship sends to Israel is received by Hadadit Keren Israelit L’Ezra (Hadadit L’Ezra). Hadadit L’Ezra helps pay for various conferences, including “Soldiers Conferences”.

Behold Israel Ministries for God of Canada

Behold Israel – Canada is part of a nonprofit organization in Israel called Behold Israel (BI). Their “mission is to provide reliable and accurate reporting on developments in Israel and the region.” Behold Israel – Canada is led by Nick Digiovanni, with three additional directors who are also listed on BI’s website (Amir Tsarfati, Gale Frank, and HT Novak). Nick’s wife is listed as responsible for Ministry & Finance. In addition to hosting online events and sharing news online, BI also provide “Bible Experience Tours” and cruises. These tours include stops in the occupied East Jerusalem, and potentially other locations in the occupied West Bank.

BI’s Founder and Director of Behold Israel – Canada, Tsarfati) regularly posts on his Telegram channel in support of the Israeli military. For instance, on December 15, 2025 he posted: “A train of rain clouds is on its way directly to the Gaza Strip. What the IDF can’t finish – the rain will! These terror tunnels are to be flooded and emptied!”

A few days earlier, he posted: “The floods in Gaza indeed destroy that which the IDF hasn’t yet.”

In October 2025, Tsarfati posted “Gaza won’t be quiet tonight” suggesting support for Israeli bombardment in response to alleged violations of the ‘ceasefire’ by Hamas. Less than two hours later, Tsarfati posted again in reply to his earlier statement: “As I promised”; and “The F-16s are on their way! Music to my ears! Our enemies must always be on the run!”; and “Nonstop take offs of F-16s. Gaza is getting pounded!”

Later, he posted the following with celebration from his followers:

Behold Israel – Canada does not report sending any funds to BI or Israel more broadly. Their expenses could be related to trips to Israel. The CRA must investigate Behold Israel – Canada’s financials and ensure their expenditures are not for trips to Israel. The CRA must also investigate the leadership of the organization for their outright support for Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza.

Christian Ministry to Israel

CMI is clear in its mission, to spread “the Gospel of CHRIST JESUS among the people of Israel and Jews worldwide.” CMI showed immediate support for Israel in October 2023, and shared that one of the recipients of its funds was shopping for items for the Israeli army. The majority of funds CMI sends to Israel are to HaGefen Publishing, an Israeli association that publishes Christian materials in Hebrew.

Ezra for Israel

CMI is also associated with another charity, Ezra for Israel. Ezra for Israel provides “a helping hand to Jews who confess Jesus as the promised Messiah.”

Israel’s Peace Ministries

Israel Peace Ministries vision is “to support, encourage and promote local Messianic congregations and pastors in the nation of Israel, especially those that are persecuted.” They specifically believe that “[t]o preach the gospel to the Jewish people is to be believed and expected. The initiative to have Jews discover their Messiah Yeshua is long over due. Israel Peace Ministries sends funds to The Spirit of Israel, a nonprofit organiztion that offers programs for those serving in the military. They provide pre- and post-military training programs. They also provide support for “lone soldiers.”

Further, they provide funds to another Israeli recipient — Beit Hallel Congregation. Beit Hallel strongly supports the Israeli military. They say: “Today, our brave defenders are stationed in critical areas such as Gaza, the northern border with Lebanon, and the West Bank. They are safeguarding Jewish communities, protecting civilians, and ensuring Israel’s security amidst constant threats.” They provide practical care for active duty soldiers and reservists.
