Over the last decade, the CRA has revoked over 30 charities that sent money to Israel in support of occupation and apartheid regime. Welcome to our series highlighting just some of these orgs.

Beth Oloth Charitable Organization
The Background
Charitable purpose: Religious charity providing Jewish education and religious training.
Registration / audit: Originally registered in 1981, an initial audit occurred in 2016.
Result: Revocation based on CRA’s investigation.
The Findings
The CRA found that Beth Oloth contributed funds to non-qualified donees, and failed to show that they engaged in exclusively charitable activities.
- The CRA discovered an undisclosed financial relationship between Beth Oloth and Gates of Mercy, another revoked charity.
- Beth Oloth was found to have deposited cheques made out to Shmuel Reidel, sole active director at Gates of Mercy.
- In 2014, Beth Oloth claimed to move over $31 million CDN to thousands of international intermediaries, a claim determined to be false by the CRA.
- Beth Oloth engaged in an extended period of legal obfuscation after attempted communication by the CRA.
Conclusions
- Beth Oloth’s charitable status was revoked in 2019, with no legal challenges.
“Gates of Mercy, Beth Oloth, and the Jewish Heritage Foundation in fact operated in conjunction with each other, such that CRA interventions did little to interrupt the flow of hundreds of millions in untaxed funds being transferred to foreign agents with questionable direction and control.” (Howe & Sylvestre 2022)
