Light beige/grey background with a ripped strip of paper through the centre. Text reads: REVOKING ZIONISM CLOAKED AS CHARITY: Gates of Mercy

Over the last decade, the CRA has revoked over 30 charities that sent money to Israel in support of occupation and apartheid regime. Welcome to our series highlighting just some of these orgs.

The majority of this information is sourced from Howe & Sylvestre’s 2025 article “Burner Charities and Big Gifters“.

Gates of Mercy

The Background

Charitable purpose: Poverty relief/financial assistance for needy people in Israel, USA, Chile, and Canada.

Registration / audit: Originally registered in 1991, an initial audit occurred in 2012.

Result: Revocation based on CRA’s investigation.

The Findings

Funds not adequately controlled and accounted for. Questionable financial ties discovered with the Beth Oloth Charitable Organization, also revoked by the CRA.

  • The initial audit occurred in 2012, with a second audit taking place in 2016.
  • Gates of Mercy had no means to ensure that uncontrolled funds were actually being utilized for its own charitable activities.
  • Gates of Mercy failed to comply with CRA requirements by the time of the second audit.
  • The organization’s charitable status was revoked in 2019, after an extended period of legal obfuscation by Gates of Mercy.

Conclusions

  • Gates of Mercy’s charitable status was revoked in 2019, with no legal challenges.
  • Beth Oloth Charitable Organization, closely associated with Gates of Mercy, also had its charitable status revoked in 2019.
