Over the last decade, the CRA has revoked over 30 charities that sent money to Israel in support of occupation and apartheid regime. Welcome to our series highlighting just some of these orgs.

The majority of this information is sourced from Howe & Sylvestre’s 2025 article “Burner Charities and Big Gifters“.

Kupas Hachesed Meoroth

The Background

Charitable purpose: Poverty relief / financial assistance for needy people in Israel.

Registration / audit: Originally registered in 2007, an initial audit occurred in 2018.

Result: Revocation based on CRA’s investigation.

The Findings

The CRA could not identify any disbursements to their Israeli intermediary. Most funds for “foreign activities” were sent to individuals in Canada and deposited in Canadian bank accounts.

  • CRA could not verify over $32 million worth of donations.
  • Over $48 million was dispersed to Canadian and American recipients through cheques written to individuals individuals (identified only by first initial and last name).
  • CRA concluded that “it does not appear that any charitable activity occurred, whether within or outside of Canada” and that “it appears the Organization is simply gifting funds to individuals and conferring an unacceptable private benefit

Conclusions

  • KHM’s charitable status was revoked in 2022, with no legal challenges.
  • However, KHM remains a registered “Association” in Quebec (NEQ 3363440192).
