The 2026 Israel EduExpo is happening just outside Toronto (at Bayt in Thornhill) on May 3. The EduExpo is hosting Israeli universities with deep ties to the Israeli military as well as representatives of a “Lone Soldier” program. We asked the Department of Justice to investigate each of the Canadian entities associated with Israeli universities and bar entry of any individuals involved in the Israeli military from entering Canada for this event. Now, it’s time for you to demand the CRA end tax-breaks for Israeli universities.

Israeli universities are deeply connected to Canadian institutions. Israeli universities receive funding from a variety of Canadian institutions, namely registered charities associated with their institution. For example, Technion Canada supports, you guessed it, Technion Israel (aka the Israel Institute of Technology). But that’s not all. Israeli universities also directly receive tax breaks because many are registered as qualified donees with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). This means that Israeli universities who are qualified donees can issue official donation tax receipts for gifts they receive from individuals, corporations, and registered charities.

Next week, on Tuesday May 3 2026, the EduExpo will host six Israeli universities, the Israeli Student Authority (Ministry of Aliyah and Integration), JLIC (Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus), and Lone Soldier representatives from Garin Tzabar.

Both JLIC and Garin Tzabar provide Lone Soldier support programs. These are programs to facilitate young adults from outside Israel serving in the Israeli military. They provide incentives for participation. For instance, Garin Tzabar provides: flights to visit home, special leave, vacation due to a parental visit, errands day, early departure for holidays, civilian life preparation course, daily allowance during sick leave, food grants, and holiday gift cards. They also advertise and increased monthly military salary including grants from the Ministry of Construction and Housing as well a the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration.

Meanwhile, Israeli universities funded with Canadian tax-payer dollars develop Israeli weaponry, act as key sites for “military strategizing and legal innovation”, host military programs, offer dual military and academic training, and even “transform [themselves] into a back office for war” after after 7 October 2023. These institutions are not only connected to the Israeli military but deeply embedded and integrated into Israel’s illegal occupation and apartheid state. Canada is under legal obligations not to support Israel’s illegal occupation and to prevent and punish genocide.

Tell the CRA to stop allowing your tax dollars to be used to bolster Israel’s settler colonial and genocidal project.
