This week, we learned that at least three Palestine Football Association (PFA) officials were denied Canadian visas for the FIFA Congress. This annual event is being held in Vancouver on April 30.
Meanwhile, FIFA president Gianni Infantino “has repeatedly said that there will not be any adverse effects on travel for teams or supporters at the tournament.” After a meeting last year, he said “I think it’s important to clarify this. There is a lot of misconception out there. Everyone will be welcome in Canada, Mexico and the United States for the Fifa World Cup next year. We are working exactly for that.”
There is no evidence that Israeli officials have been denied visas despite gross violations by the Israel Football Association (IFA). Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has refused to speak directly to this case.
Canada Soccer has remained silent on the issue. Their silence and inaction is sickening. As one of the World Cup host countries, Canada Soccer has a responsibility.
