Welcome Canada’s new UN ambassador, David Lametti with facts about genocide and urgent calls to action!

"Dark green background with a photo of David Lametti, a white man with a bald head, glasses, and wearing a suit and tie. Text reads: Welcome Canada’s new UN ambassador, David Lametti with facts about genocide and urgent calls to action!"

David Lametti is Canada’s new ambassador to the United Nations, replacing Bob Rae on November 17, 2025. Lametti was previously the Justice Minister under Prime Minister Trudeau from 2019 to 2023. Most recently he supported Prime Minister Carney’s transition into office and acted as his Principal Secretary.

Throughout his time in Parliament, Lametti failed Palestine and Palestinians. As Justice Minister, Lametti received a formal complaint regarding Israel’s illegal military recruiting. His only action was to refer the matter to the RCMP who would later confirm to CJ News that no charges would arise (despite failing to respond to our many requests for an update).

Following the announcement of his ambassadorship, Lametti stated on CBC Radio’s The House that “Canada needs ‘all the evidence to come in’ and be assessed before it recognizes whether Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza — and it usually follows the lead of a UN resolution or a ruling from the International Court of Justice (ICJ).” He ignored the fact that the UN Independent International Commission had already released its report finding that “Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.”

It is a good time to welcome Lametti to his new job as UN Ambassador with some key facts and calls to action. Take a few minutes to write a welcome letter to Lametti today, outlining:

  • The overwhelming evidence of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, including relevant factual and legal findings from the ICJ, ICC, UNGA, UNSC, UN Independent International Commission, various UN bodies, and more.
  • Canada’s failure to support Palestine through UNGA votes over the last 78 years, and more importantly, its failure to take meaningful action against Israel’s systematic occupation, apartheid, and genocide.
  • The failure of the recent UNSC Resolution (2803) approving the US-Trump “20-point peace plan” for Gaza, to uphold international law, while rejecting the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination.

Let’s give Ambassador Lametti a hot welcome today!
