Materials in support of The Palestine Tribunal

"Black background with grey and beige text: ”materials in support of The Palestine Tribunal. palcan-tribunal.ca" Two photos on the right, the top is of the clock tower on Parliament hill in Ottawa. The second is of a child's handing holding up a Palestinian flag outside of a building.

The purpose of The Tribunal is:

“To document the multiple ways that Canadian entities – including government bodies, corporations, universities, charities, media, and other cultural institutions – have enabled and continue to enable the settler colonization and genocide of Palestinians, and to articulate what justice and reparations would require. Disrupting the victim/expert dichotomy, testimonies by survivors from Palestine will be woven throughout the hearings as a source of expert knowledge on what justice would entail. A Panel of Eminent Elders will be invited to listen to the witness testimonies and draft a report outlining the Tribunal’s findings.”

Below, you will find a compilation of materials from our past and present work that demonstrate Canada’s participation in and facilitation of the settler colonization and genocide of Palestinians.

Key resources / statements about overarching Canadian accountability

Canadian government complicity

Our goal is and always will be solidarity with the Palestinian people. As a Canadian organization based in the imperial core, one of the ways we show active solidarity is by holding our government accountable for its complicity in occupation, apartheid, and genocide. For instance, in November 2024, we answered the call for input for the report of the Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory to the Human Rights Council 58th session, with a dozen submissions. We also submitted over 800 companies and organizations in June 2024 to be considered for addition to the UN Database.

Arms Embargo Now

Protect Palestinian Children Now

One of Just Peace Advocates’ original initiatives was the introduction of DCIP’s “No Way to Treat A Child” program in Canada. While the program has evolved over the last 7+ years, JPA continues to work with DCIP on “Protect Palestinian Children Now.” Key has been the consistent focus over the years related to the treatment of children–from the use of military law, to extra judicial killing to genocide–the focus on exposing Canadian elected officials and civil society leaders lack of speaking out, speaks volumes of the government and society’s complicity.

Illegal recruiting for a foreign military

In October 2020, Just Peace Advocates with the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute made a submission to the Attorney General to investigate illegal Israeli military recruiting as per section 11 of the Foreign Enlistment Act. AG Lamettti indicated to le Devoir reporter Marie Vastel that the case had been sent to the RCMP for investigation. Subsequently further details were provided by Just Peace Advocates to the RCMP. There has been no indication from the RCMP to Just Peace Advocates that they have closed the investigation. Civil society engaged through letter writing, webinars and social media, and the issues have subsequently become well known. In 2025 with the declaration of Canada’s recognition of the State of Palestine, it would be expected that Section 10 of the Act would also apply, thus meaning it is not only illegal to aid and abet recruiting, but to serve in a foreign military.
